Avalanche Looms Store Home Story Workshop Postcard

JANUARY 2007

The West Fork has ice edges and the Avalanche General Store is closed now. When we moved here almost 30 years ago there were country stores every 4 or 5 miles. Bloomingdale, Dell, Brush Hollow, and Fairview all closed down, but the Avalanche Store stayed. People remember going to school here, before it was the store.

I called it downtown Avalanche. You could buy beer, and tackle, fishing and hunting licenses here. You could get marshmallows, eggs, cheese and butter, cat food and bandages.

I really do miss the store.

Correction:

To those who noticed my mistaken naming of Tinglet for Kinglet in the last postcard, I wish to say that the mistake was mine, not Rusty's. He knows his birds.

I remember once when Sofia was little and ill she diagnosed herself with a bad case of Scarlet Tanager.
